On Friday 16th May 16 boats gathered at Berney Arms @ 0830hrs for a Skippers Briefing. They were joined by the Camera Crew from Wide Angles TV who were making a film of the event for our website. The forecast for the weekend was excellent. Just after 0900hrs the boats departed their moorings and headed slowly down Breydon for a 1000hrs Haven Bridge lift.
Once out to sea, the conditions were excellent and we headed South to Lowestoft and the fleet opened up at times for the camera.
We were all alongside in the Royal Norfolk & Suffolk Yacht Club by 1200hrs for a relaxing afternoon. At 1500hrs we all met at the RN&SYC terrace for a Pimms party after which crews dispersed to various restaurants and bars for a fun filled evening.
The following morning, after a VHF Skippers Briefing, we all set sail for Southwold. The sea was flat calm and the sun was shining. Once south of the East Barnard ‘Tallulah’ our lead boat for the cruise, informed everyone we were in good safe water and the boats opened up for a play and for photographs.
At 1300hrs we entered the Harbour. Our RIB was stationed in the Harbour to ensure all boats were on course and we moored at the visitors berths down by the Harbour Inn. We spent a very pleasant afternoon in the sun with crews socializing and later most of us ate in the Harbour Inn.
The following day we left Southwold at around 1245hrs and made our way back up the coast to Yarmouth, again in excellent conditions, for a 1530hrs Haven Bridge lift.
It’s fair to say, a good time was had by all!
