NYA Cruising Club Gets to Sea in 2015 – Finally!
After a fantastic run of luck with the weather for last years cruising dates, the weather has somewhat conspired against us so far this year.
Our mid March Southwold Novice Cruise had to be cancelled due to strongish easterlys. The forecast for the entire week of our Easter East Coast Cruise, it has to be said, was somewhat worse. Winds between force 7 to 10 somewhat thwarted our seagoing ambitions.
The beauty of a Broads base is that conditions needn’t stop your boating…… Plans were put in place, moorings were booked & the NYA fleet gathered at the Waveney River Centre on Saturday 28th March. After a drinks party aboard Evita, the group enjoyed the facilities and restaurant of this delightful place before moving up to Somerleyton Staithe for an excellent Sunday lunch at the Dukes Head.
The fleet then visited Oulton Broad Yacht Station and took a trip to look at the sea at Lowestoft by train.
The weeks forecast began to improve gradually and Thursday was identified as a reasonable enough forecast to take the fleet to Southwold. After a couple of relaxed days in Southwold the fleet headed to the Royal Norfolk & Suffolk Yacht Club at Lowestoft on Saturday before returning to Great Yarmouth & the Broads on Sunday.
Although we did a lot less sea miles than we had planned, it is fair to say that a good time was had by all.
