The weather and other factors have stopped us getting out to sea for the last few Easters so we were keen to get a run in the salty stuff if we could.
We had hoped to go to Southwold on Good Friday but very strong winds blowing from the south meant that the majority of our fleet stayed on the broads whilst 3 more experienced crews made their way to the RNSYC in Lowestoft via Mutford lock.
Saturday mornings weather was the transformation that the forecast had suggested, very light winds, no rain and fairly mild for the time of year. We met at the Berney Arms moorings and after a brief chat and questions, we made our way across Breydon Water and through the 3 Yarmouth bridges which all lifted seamlessly and then out to sea. The forecast for Sunday was poor so we had taken the decision to abort Southwold and head for Lowestoft. We took the longer route down the Holm Channel around the sand bank and up the Stanford Channel into Lowestoft. Conditions were great and we had a nice run at around 18 knots.
After a relaxing afternoon we enjoyed dinner together in the RNSYC.
The 3 more experienced boats decided to head for Southwold for Saturday night and take what comes on Sunday. As forecast Sunday was grey and dull with a stiff easterly breeze creating a fairly unpleasant sea state. The 3 boats made it safely back into Lowestoft on Sunday morning – slightly salty but happy.
On Easter Sunday we had lunch together in the club and the chef did us proud with a superb roast. The fleet returned to the Broads via Mutford lock on Monday.
