The fleet made their way to the RNSYC at Lowestoft via Mutford Lock and met in the club house on Saturday 24th June for drinks, dinner and briefing. We had 12 boats with several crews who had little or no sea going experience.
The sea state was very pleasant when we left Lowestoft the following morning in a light South Easterly breeze and the sun shone as the fleet covered the 40 mile passage to Felixstowe through the Harbour and then up the River Orwell through the lock into Ipswich Haven Marina. We stayed two nights in Ipswich which is always popular with boaters in the lovely setting of the dock with restaurants, bars and coffee shops aplenty.
On Tuesday afternoon we passaged through the lock and back down stream and out of the Harbour for the 4 mile run across to the River Deben. We crossed the Deben bar at just after 1700hrs and then up this very pretty River to Tidemill Yacht Harbour where we settled in for a 3 night stay. Woodbridge is a lovely town and the crews enjoyed social time getting to mingle with the other boaters in our fleet.
We departed on Friday morning for our passage back to Lowestoft when once again the sea state was very pleasant although the sun was not quite so keen to show itself.

Liz and I just wanted to say thank you for including us on the cruise, despite us not (yet) being NYA customers.
We were really impressed with the organisation of the event and all the help that was on hand if needed. For us it was a great opportunity to plan our own passages and then compare with how the experts do it. We learnt a lot and went to places that we might not have had the confidence to tackle. We would now happily go back to the Orwell and Deben on our own and we look forward to exploring some of the other east coast destinations over the summer.
It was also great to meet some other people who, like us, were looking to expand their boating horizons. We had lots of interesting conversations over drinks or dinner, which really made it a special week.
We would not want to take a place that could be filled by one of your existing customers, but we would welcome the opportunity to join another cruise in the future if you have places to spare. We would especially like to join a cruise to the Netherlands if you decide to go there again some time!
