Congratulations to Sarah and Mark Suckling who were married on 20th October at Horning Parish Church. It was a great day and we wish them all the best for the future.

The Great Yarmouth Coastguard Centre is to close in May 2013, as was originally announced two transport secretaries ago in 2011. The Humber and Thames stations will then be responsible for monitoring the coast from Gayton Le Marsh in Lincs to Southwold in Suffolk.
The Maritime & Coastguard Agency said there would be no reduction in frontline rescue resources and that  the availability of lifeboats, helicopters, coastguard teams and other rescue facilities in the area would be "wholly unaffected". But you can’t help feeling that we risk losing some important local knowledge

Our new films made by Wideangles TV are an excellent guide to anyone looking to buy a boat – and a superb introduction to NYA. You can see for yourself on the front page of our website.
More than 80 customers and friends gathered for a red-carpet premiere at the Brundall Motor Yacht Club on October 27 for champagne and canapés and a chance to meet the stars.
It’s a stylish and informative film, with a lot to help the first time buyer, but the guests obviously found some humour in it.
The staff were applauded for starring roles but have decided against making long term careers in film and are now back down to earth and hard at work. Members can see more photos on the Cruising Club website at

The NYA Cruising Club now has its own website so it’s easier for you to see what’s going on, join the discussions and give us your opinions.
This is the place to see all the photos of past cruises and find out what is coming up. Right now, James is poring over tide tables and the calendar to come up with a programme for 2013.
Speedo (aka Mark Suckling) is starring as Ask Jeeves. Members are welcome to post questions on any aspect of boat technology and maintenance. Speedo will dig deep into his knowledge to come up with the answers. Anyone can have a look at the questions and answers.

If you are in the market for a boat – or even if you just like to know what is going on - you can keep up to date with our weekly email lists. Every week we will send details of boats that are fresh on the market and the best new deals to your desktop or mobile.
Just email and ask for your weekly update.

We look forward to seeing you at the Tullet-Prebon London Boat Show (January 12-20, 2013). If you were not able to make our own September launch of the Haines 32 Sedan, this will be your first chance to see this stunning new river and estuary cruiser. It’s certainly attracted a lot of interest, with five firm orders and build slots filling up at the factory. The Haines team will be with us to show you over the 32 Sedan and explain the new safety and comfort features which make this an ideal family boat.
You will also have the chance to look over a couple of our used boats and to see if we can find what you are looking for.

The saga of the Broads bridges continues as the authorities struggle to keep these in working order. If you are planning to cruise around the Broads this winter, you might find a problem almost anywhere. The place to check for bridge closures, delays and dredging is the Notices to Mariners at
The Vauxhall Bridge over the Bure at Great Yarmouth is now going to be restored after much fund raising by heritage organisations. Work will start in November after being put back from August. The EDP reported that there were complications in the planning which had to be rethought because it involves “working over water”. We wonder at what point the planners discovered that the bridge was over water.
